카라바조(Caravaggio)

미켈란젤로 메리시 다 카라바조(이탈리아어 : Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio [karaˈvaddʒo], 1573년 9월 29일 – 1610년 7월 18일)는 이탈리아 밀라노 출신의 화가이다.

 

태어난 마을의 이름인 카라바조(Caravaggio)로 잘 알려져 있다.

그의 삶은 불가사의하고 매혹적이며 위험했던 것으로 여겨진다. 그는 1600년 로마 미술계에 갑자기 등단했다. 그 이후 그는 어떠한 수입이나 후원자도 없었으나 그는 극적인 성공을 거두었다. 

 

그러다가 1606년 5월 29일 테니스 경기도중 말다툼 끝에 상대인 젊은 남자를 살해하고 사형을 선고받았다. 그러나 그는 현상금이 걸린 채 로마를 도망쳐 나왔다. 이후에도 1608년 몰타에서 말다툼에, 1609년에 나폴리에서 또 다른 말다툼에 개입되었다. 

 

 

 

이듬 해인 1610년에 그의 10여 년간의 활동을 뒤로한 채 포르토 에콜레(Porto Ecole)에서 사망하였다.

사망 후 오랫동안 잊혀졌다가 20세기에 들어서 재발견되어 거장으로 재평가되었다.

Sacred Love Versus Profane Love (1602-03), by Giovanni Baglione. Intended as an attack on his hated enemy, Caravaggio, it shows a winged male youth with an arrow, most likely a representation of Eros, the god associated with Aphrodite and sexual (i.e., profane) love, on one side, a devil with Caravaggio's face on the other, and between an angel representing pure, meaning non-erotic or sacred, love.

안녕하세요. 내고영여섯시입니다.

 

아트인문학 책을 통해 나왔던, 카라바조의 그림들을 일부 모아봤습니다. 그림이 좀 많아서, 설명란에 한글은 패스했습니다. ㅋㅋ 국내 위키보다 미국 위키에 더 많은 정보가 있네요. ^^

 

뭐, 그의 삶은 뭐라고 말을 못하겠습니다만, 그림은 정말 빠져들도록 잘 그린 것 같습니다.

미술 쪽은 천재들 중에서 참, 단명한 경우가 많은 것 같네요.

 

영혼을 그림에 다 쏟아넣은 걸까요?...

 

디아블로3의 이미지를 보는 듯한 다크한 느낌이 참 묘하게 매력적입니다.
